Maybe you’ve heard people speak of their morning skincare routine and wondered what this might entail. Perhaps you have even done your research about the various types of products and recommended ingredient types that are suitable to put on your skin. However, you just don’t fancy having to set your alarm at some ungodly time in the morning to get everything done. So, day after day, you vow to start your routine tomorrow, but that day never arrives. Well, we’re here to tell you that a morning skincare routine doesn’t have to be intimidating or time-consuming. These simple steps are sure to get you ready for the day ahead.
Wash Your Face
This should go without saying but some of you may still be wondering why it’s important to wash your face considering that all you’ve been doing is lying down. You don’t notice this, but your pillowcase is home to dirt and debris which – you guessed it – your cheek has been lying in for a long time. To remove this dirt from your pores and prepare your face for the day ahead, it’s important to wash your face with a cleanser that is mild on your skin. Another tip is to avoid rubbing your face with just any old towel. Instead, try dabbing with a soft washcloth that is gentle on the skin.
Apply A Toner or Exfoliate
Now using a toner is completely optional but it’s ideal if you want to get your skin’s pH to a level that is suitable for other products. To apply, just dab a few drops on a clean cotton pad and swipe it on your face. Exfoliators are excellent as they help remove the dead skin cells that have accumulated on your skin. You can use a gentle exfoliating cream gel, paste, or cream gel that is soothing to the skin. Some may prefer using a cleansing brush for this. No matter the method, this helps brighten your complexion.
Use Spot Treatment
This applies mainly if your skin is acne-prone or if you have skin conditions that require you to apply product to the affected area. If this is the case, you can use salicylic acids or retinoids. However, do note that the latter makes your skin even more sensitive to the sun and can be harsh for the skin.
Moisturize Thoroughly
This is not only applicable for those with dry skin but equally important for all skin types. Indeed, moisturizers, especially those with natural water-based ingredients are good for all skin types. It keeps the skin hydrated and gives you that coveted dewy glow.
Don’t Forget Sunscreen
Most novices forget the most dangerous thing that can age your skin: the sun! That’s right, damaging UV light of the sun has been linked to skin cancer, wrinkling, and a whole host of skin conditions. This is the most important last step if your moisturizer doesn’t have a built-in SPF component. This also applies if you are indoors. For best results, wait for 20 minutes before you go out to ensure the sunscreen has been properly absorbed.
